ANTI-CORROSIVE PRIMERS

Primers are used to fill the porosity and adherance to the substrate.the principal function of a primer is to prevent corrosion and provide cleaned surface for top coat application. Primers are of various types such as

Blast primers

Steel which has been sand blasted rusts very rapidly.
To prevent corrosion, blast primers are applied quickly within 15 minutes after the blasting is complete.

Red oxide zinc chromate

These primers are primarily used in industrial work.zinc chrome provides the corrosion inhibiting action.the powerful oxidising property of the chromate ion oxidise ferrous ions to ferric oxides on the anode surface and simultaneously combination takes place to form an adherant ferric/chromate complexes.this seals the anodic areas and retards corrosion.

Etch/ wash primers

Wash primers dry rapidly to a matt finish, which is an ideal surface for the subsequent, coat of a paint.
Etching of the surface by the phosphoric acid renders better adhesion to the films.

Zinc phosphate grey primer

Provide better corrosion resistant surface for the subsequent coat.

Epoxy zinc phosphate grey primers

Are used for industrial protective coatings for the heavy machinery, construction equipments, refineries, structure, pipelines etc.
